A fat person all of my life, I found Fat Acceptance in October 2007. For a long time, I'd had a niggling thought in the back of my mind that just maybe I'm not meant to lose weight, because every time I've tried, I've failed. I knew nothing about the realities behind the diet industry and the fallacies they promote. Finding FA opened my eyes and showed me that yes - I AM 'normal.' 'Normal' for ME. When I told my children that people came in all shapes and sizes and it was okay, I wasn't just feeding them a line - I was right even if I didn't have any confirmation to back up what I was saying.
I live in the NE of England, but I'm an American. I moved here in 2003, partially as a compromise with my husband (we spent the first 4 years of our marriage in the U.S.), and partly just to see if our life would be any better here than it was 'back home.' I have 4 children - all girls - ranging in age from 6 to 13. My husband is naturally thin (underweight, even) and our children run the gamut between thin and overweight. While my husband isn't active in the FA community, he agrees with everything he's heard about it (mostly from me). He's very supportive of my decision to become as active a member as I possibly can be. And he's supportive of me, period.
